LGMSoC’21 - My First Open Source Program Experience

LetsGrowMore, is a ground based organisation which aims at building the future through nourishing the present. They believe in making the youth, specially the students, self aware. Help them to explore the untouched world of technology and tremendous growth making fields. Today they are an officially MSME registered start up with nearly 100 people working under the same establishment. LetsGrowMore has nearly conducted more than a decade inspiring webinars connecting an audience of more than 1000’s of people, inspiring them and at the same time serving them with key services. Ultimately the main aim of our organisation is to grow all together.

LetsGrowMore Summer of Code(LGMSoC) is an open source program with the main motto of empowering the student community. This was the first season and there were more than 4000 participants, 100+ highly skilled mentors and 60 projects to contribute to.

I wasn’t aware of the world of open source, then one day randomly scrolling, I saw a LinkedIn post about LGMSoC. Googled a bit about it and was glad to know that they are still accepting applications. After applying to the program I got a mail regarding my selection to the program and the discord server link. I was overwhelmed and then I searched and explored the projects to find out which projects can I contribute to.

I mainly contributed to two projects Movie-Streaming-Website and Musicophilia as a participant. The mentors and project admins were very kind in helping us and guiding us throughout the program. I had a great learning experience throughout the program. This program surely helped me to learn more about Git and GitHub. Looking forward to carving out good contributions from this dough of knowledge.

Will be eagerly waiting for next season of LGMSoC and other such events and opportunities.
